Job description
Maintains, adjusts and repairs radio and television receivers, and related audio and visual reproduction equipment such as video cameras, digital versatile disc players, compact disc players and video cassette recorders.

Skill level
This occupation has a level of skill commensurate with the qualifications and experience in Australia of AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).

Skills assessment authority
Before you can migrate to Australia as a skilled migrant you must have your skills assessed by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA).

• examining and testing machines, equipment, instruments and control systems to diagnose faults
• adjusting, repairing, and replacing worn and defective parts and wiring, and maintaining machines, equipment and instruments
• reassembling, test operating and adjusting equipment
• advising users of correct operating procedures to prevent malfunctions
• receiving messages by interpreting code and converting to plain language, and writing and typing messages for transmission
• monitoring radio traffic, and transmitting and receiving voice messages
• installing electronic instruments and control systems
• applying knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles in commissioning and maintaining control systems

Work Conditions
Electronic equipment technicians may work in workshops, in private homes or in manufacturers' factories. They may be required to work in confined spaces, and have to sit or stand for long periods. They may also be required to work at heights on masts, towers and roofs. Some may have considerable contact with the public.

An awareness of safety regulations is important and electronic equipment technicians must often wear and use supplied protective equipment to minimise risks.

• able to work at heights and in confined spaces
• able to work as part of a team
• able to work with minimal supervision
• good eyesight and normal colour vision
